Momin Rahman is a Professor of Sociology at Trent University, affiliated with Otonabee College. He holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Strathclyde. His research focuses on LGBTQ+ identities and politics, racialization, postcolonialism, and Islamophobia, with a particular emphasis on queer Muslim experiences globally. He teaches advanced courses on social theory, ethnic relations, and global sexual diversity politics, integrating his research into pedagogy through textbooks and guest lectures.
Rahman’s work bridges academia and policy, contributing to UN initiatives on freedom of religion and sexuality. Notable achievements include establishing the field of Queer Muslim studies, co-editing The Oxford Handbook of Global LGBT and Sexual Diversity Politics (2020), and advising international organizations on inclusive policies. He currently supervises the Interdisciplinary Social Research PhD program and advocates for decolonial approaches in queer studies.
His recent research explores queer Muslim belonging, homocolonialism critiques, and transnational LGBTQ+ advocacy strategies. Rahman has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, emphasizing intersectionality as a theoretical framework.
