Molly Pasley is an Assistant Professor in the Visual Disabilities program at Northern Illinois University's Special and Early Education Department (SEED), part of the College of Education. She holds an Ed.D. in Special Education from Illinois State University (2018), an M.S.Ed. and M.A. from NIU in Orientation and Mobility, and a B.S. in Special Education with a focus on Low Vision/Blindness. Her research explores how individuals with visual impairments navigate environments and challenges societal perceptions of disability. Pasley taught as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) and certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) across Illinois, including work with the Veterans Administration to support older adults with visual impairments. She teaches courses on special education, visual impairments, and orientation/mobility instruction.
Her academic interests include accessibility in driver education, employment equity for visually impaired individuals, and historical intersections of disability and race. She has published in journals like Journal of Visual Impairments and Blindness and Journal of Philosophy and History of Education, focusing on topics such as mobility training, social perceptions of disability, and career pathways. Pasley is an ACUE Distinguished Teaching Scholar, recognizing her excellence in pedagogical practice. Her professional service includes advising graduate students and supervising student teaching placements in special education.
