Dr. Kimberly Avila is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at George Mason University's College of Education and Human Development. She serves as the Professor-in-Charge for Special Education: Blindness and Visual Impairments and is affiliated with the Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities.
- Education: PhD from George Mason University
Her research focuses on education, orientation and mobility, Braille literacy, environmental and digital accessibility, policy development, and IEP advocacy for individuals with blindness, low vision, and secondary disabilities. Recent work explores intersections of albinism with visual impairments and pedestrian safety for disabled populations.
