Mojtaba Soltanlou is Assistant Professor in Developmental Neuroscience at the University of Surrey's School of Psychology. He directs the Learning Brain Lab, which investigates how children acquire knowledge and develop cognitive skills, with particular focus on numerical and mathematical cognition.
His research examines the developmental trajectory from non-symbolic to symbolic numerical knowledge using neuroscientific methods including functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), electroencephalography (EEG), and brain stimulation. Current longitudinal studies track neural correlates of numerical knowledge acquisition in preschool children.
Dr. Soltanlou's work has international collaborations across Europe and North America. He serves as Associate Editor for Cortex and maintains affiliations with the Mathematical Cognition and Learning Society and Society of functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy.
