Mohammed Alnaggar is a Senior Research Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, specializing in the aging and deterioration of concrete materials and infrastructures. He holds a PhD from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northwestern University, where he collaborates on meso-scale and macro-scale modeling projects.
His research integrates physics-based constitutive models to simulate shrinkage, creep, thermal effects, and Alkali-Silica reactions in quasi-brittle materials. He employs both discrete and continuum computational mechanics techniques to analyze high-rise buildings, cable-supported structures, and nonlinear material behavior, with recent work on alkali silica reaction driving interdisciplinary collaborations.
Dr. Alnaggar’s focus areas include fracture mechanics, automatic parameter identification, and chemo-physical modeling of concrete degradation. His technical expertise spans structural analysis, neural networks, and control systems, addressing critical challenges in infrastructure longevity.
