Mohammad Sepahvand is a Research Fellow at the Department of Economics, Lund University. His research focuses on risk preferences, gender dynamics in agriculture, and socio-economic challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel region. He investigates how political instability, conflict, and health crises like the pandemic intersect with economic development. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in addressing food insecurity and promoting sustainable development in Africa.
Key research areas include the impact of civil conflict on pandemic responses, the role of gender in agricultural productivity, and the stability of risk attitudes in post-revolution societies. Sepahvand’s interdisciplinary approach bridges economics, public health, and political science.
He has received the Understanding and countering vaccine hesitancy in sub-Saharan Africa award (2022). His research projects include a Swedish Council-funded initiative exploring gender and risk-taking in Burkina Faso’s agricultural sector. Collaborations span institutions in Africa and Europe, emphasizing fieldwork in conflict-affected regions. Sepahvand advocates for evidence-based policies to enhance resilience in vulnerable communities.
