Mohammad Gharipour

Mohammad Gharipour is Professor and Director of the Architecture Program at the University of Maryland, with affiliate appointments at the National Center for Smart Growth and Persian Studies Program. An internationally recognized scholar, he has published 15 books and nearly 150 articles.

Education:

• PhD in Architecture - Georgia Institute of Technology (2009)
• Master of Architecture - University of Tehran (2001)

His research examines Islamic urbanism, health-oriented design, and Middle Eastern landscapes. NIH-funded projects analyze health disparities in community clinics, while NEH-supported work documents Iranian synagogues.

He directs the International Journal of Islamic Architecture and co-founded the Epidemic Urbanism Initiative. As president of the Society of Architectural Historians, he has organized over 30 academic conferences.
