Ahoo Najafian serves as Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies in the Department of Religious Studies at Macalester College, where she teaches Introduction to Islam, Gender Relations in Islam, and Arts of Islam. Previously, she held the Ira T. Wender Postdoctoral Scholar position in Middle East Studies and Religion at Carleton College from 2018 to 2020.
Her academic credentials include:

- PhD in Religious Studies from Stanford University
Professor Najafian's research centers on Persianate Islam and the intersection of religion with literary traditions in modern Iran. Her current book project "Poetic Nation: Iranian Soul and Historical Continuity" analyzes 20th Century interpretations of Hafez's poetry, exploring how this 14th Century Persian poet's work shapes contemporary Iranian religious identity and cultural continuity. Her scholarship bridges Islamic theology, Persian literary heritage, and gender dynamics within Iranian society.
