Mohammad Bahram is a microbial ecologist and researcher at the University of Tartu's Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences, specializing in soil microbiomes, fungal ecology, and biogeography. With a PhD (2012) focused on ectomycorrhizal fungi biogeography, he has contributed extensively to understanding microbial community dynamics across spatial scales and environmental gradients.
- Doctor's Degree (2012) - University of Tartu
- Supervisors: Urmas Kõljalg, Leho Tedersoo, Shahin Zarre
Research Interests: His work bridges soil microbial ecology, metagenomics, and biodiversity assessment through environmental DNA studies. Key themes include:
- Fungal-bacterial interactions in soils and mushrooms
- Impact of land use change on microbial communities
- Biogeographic patterns of soil microbes
- Development of metabarcoding primers and databases
Publications Trends: Recent work (2024-2025) focuses on soil health indicators, protist community responses to land use intensity, and global arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi richness. Earlier articles (2022-2023) examine nitrogen-fixing bacteria, wetland microbiomes, and fungal endophyte community assembly.
Academic Supervision: Currently supervising Felipe Gonzalez Casabianca's doctoral research on large-scale soil microbiome functional profiling.
