Leho Tedersoo is a Professor of Mycorrhizal Studies at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Science and Technology, Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences since 2025. With a career spanning two decades, he has held various research and academic positions including Research Professor (2021–2024), Senior Research Fellow (2014–2018), and Post-Doc (2008–2011). His work focuses on fungal ecology, mycorrhizal symbiosis, and soil microbiomes, contributing to global datasets like UNITE and EUKARYOME.
- Doctor's Degree (2007), Master's Degree (2003), and Bachelor's Degree (2002) in Botany and Mycology from University of Tartu
His 257 publications since 2003 demonstrate expertise in ectomycorrhizal fungi, arbuscular mycorrhizal richness, and soil carbon dynamics. Recent articles (2024–2025) analyze fungal community impacts on carbon storage, airborne DNA patterns, and biodiversity-ecosystem function relationships. Notable awards include the Estonian President's Young Researcher Prize (2015) and National Science Award (2014).
Active in professional societies like Estonian Microbiological Society (2010–) and Estonian Mycologists' Society (2003–), Tedersoo has led international projects on mycorrhizal studies while maintaining global collaborations through unpaid visiting researcher roles.
