Mohammad Asadi is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), affiliated with the Armour College of Engineering. His research focuses on advancing electrochemical energy storage systems, CO2 conversion technologies, and novel catalyst development. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2015), an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (2006), and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Sahand University of Technology (2003).
Research interests include experimental studies of surface chemistry in catalytic reactions, electrochemical energy storage (e.g., lithium-ion and metal-air batteries), and CO2 reduction systems. His work emphasizes designing advanced materials for energy applications, such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoflakes for lithium-oxygen batteries and black phosphorus-based sensors. Key contributions include developing a CO2 electrolyzer producing propane and breakthroughs in stable lithium-air battery technology with Argonne National Laboratory.
Professional memberships include the Materials Research Society (MRS), American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Academy for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS).
