Dennis W. Dees

Dennis W. Dees is a Senior Electrochemical Engineer and Leader of Electrochemical Energy Storage in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983 and has remained at Argonne since then, progressing from a postdoctoral appointee to research engineer, project manager, and group leader before assuming his current role.

His research spans theoretical and experimental electrochemistry, with key interests including:

• Advanced lithium and lithium-ion battery technologies (focus since the 1990s)
• Fuel cell system development
• Electrochemical sensor design
• Calorimetry applications in electrochemical systems

He leads the Electrochemical Energy Storage group, driving innovations in energy storage solutions for national security and sustainable energy applications.
