Mohamed Sesay is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the African Studies Program in the Department of Social Science at York University. He is also a UKRI GCRF Visiting Fellow at the LSE Centre for Women, Peace and Security. His research focuses on development, transitional justice, international criminal justice, rule of law, customary justice, and post-conflict reconstruction in sub-Saharan Africa. He holds a Ph.D. from McGill University, an MA from the University of Alberta, and an MPhil from the University of Sierra Leone.

Research interests include international relations, comparative politics, and the intersection of legal norms and postcolonial governance. He co-leads a UKRI GCRF project on Land Policy, Gender Justice, and Dual Legal Systems. His book Domination through Law: The Internationalization of Legal Norms in Postcolonial Africa explores legal frameworks in Africa. His work appears in journals like African Affairs, Third World Quarterly, and European Journal of International Security.
He advises graduate students and is affiliated with Criminology (CRIM) and International Development Studies (IDS) programs.
