Mohamed O. Elasri is a Professor and Primary Faculty member at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), affiliated with the College of Medicine and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. His research focuses on global gene regulation in Staphylococcus aureus, particularly mechanisms of biofilm development, virulence, antibiotic tolerance, and metabolic adaptation.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Oklahoma State University
- Postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Research Interests center on understanding how global regulators like the msaABCR operon and MsaB protein interact with virulence genes to ensure S. aureus survival in host environments. This includes exploring small molecule inhibitors targeting MsaB to develop novel therapeutics against antibiotic-resistant staph infections.
Publications highlight studies on msaABCR operon functions in oxidative stress response, persister formation, cell wall biosynthesis, and chronic osteomyelitis. Collaborative work extends to biomedical materials science, investigating nanostructured composites for bone implants. Key disciplines include Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biomedical Engineering.
