Mohamed Douch is a Professor of Economics at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, Ontario, since 2006. He also serves as a research fellow at the Centre for International and Defence Policy (CIDP) and the John Deutsch Institute for the Study of Economic Policy (JDI) at Queen’s University. His work spans academic research, consulting, and institutional leadership roles.
Education: Dr. Douch holds a B.Sc., M.Sc. (2001 in Financial Economics with distinction), and Ph.D. (2006 in Macroeconomics) from the Université de Québec à Montréal (UQAM). He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, and statistics at both UQAM and RMC.
- Research Interests: Macroeconomics (Monetary Policy Analysis, DSGE Modeling), Financial Economics (International Trade, Exchange Rates), Defense Economics (Military Spending Determinants, Conflict Economics), Applied Econometrics (Time Series, Panel Data), and Quantitative Methods (Statistical Research Techniques).
- Consulting: Collaborated with the Centre for Operational Research and Analysis (CORA), DRDC Ottawa, and DRDC Toronto under National Defense Canada. Engaged in projects analyzing military expenditure data and defense policy.
His publications explore defense economics, monetary policy in small open economies, and financial market dynamics. Recent work includes analysis of SIPRI’s military expenditure datasets and the economic effects of civil conflicts. He reviews and authors for journals like Defence and Peace Economics and Economics of Peace and Security Journal.
- Awards: Research Fellowships at CIDP and JDI (Queen’s University).
Advising/Grants: Served as Deputy Head of the Department of Management and Economics and PIC (Principal Investigator) for research on military spending determinants.
