Professor Moataz Attallah serves as Dean of the School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical, and Materials Engineering at Loughborough University since September 1, 2025, and holds a Professorship in Advanced Materials Processing (Metallic Materials) while leading the Advanced Materials and Processing Lab (AMPLab).
Educational background:
- BSc (highest honours) in Mechanical and Materials/Manufacturing Engineering, American University in Cairo, 2001
- MSc in Mechanical and Materials/Manufacturing Engineering, American University in Cairo, 2003
- PhD in Metallurgy and Materials Science, University of Birmingham, 2007
His research spans Materials Science, Metallurgy, and Additive Manufacturing with specialized expertise in metallic materials processing, neutron diffraction, and synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques developed during his tenure at Manchester's Stress & Damage Characterisation Unit. Current work focuses on industrial-scale advanced materials applications.
AMPLab under his direction has secured over £15 million in research funding since 2010, supporting collaborative projects across international institutions. He actively engages in public outreach through TV interviews and multilingual lectures on additive manufacturing and career development for global charities.
The Advanced Materials and Processing Lab (AMPLab) conducts cutting-edge research in metallic additive manufacturing, materials characterization, and industrial processing techniques, maintaining partnerships with universities worldwide including institutions in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Italy, China, and Egypt.
