Mladen Marković, born in 1961 in Belgrade, serves as Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Department of Ethnomusicology, Faculty of Music Art in Belgrade. He has held this position since 1990 while additionally teaching at the University of Niš and as a visiting professor at the University of Sts. Ciril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia.
His academic journey includes:
- Graduation from High School of Music Mokranjac (violin department) and High School of Mathematics in 1980
- Ethnomusicology studies under Prof. Dragoslav Dević, completed one year early
- Master's thesis defense under Prof. Dević in 1988
- Ph.D. under Prof. Dimitrije Golemović, current Head of the Department
Marković's research centers on ethnomusicological analysis of folk music instruments—particularly instrumental ensembles—and historical investigations of Serbian popular music. His innovative work extends to computer-aided methodologies in ethnomusicology, including tonometry applications for musical analysis.
