Prof. Mithra Zahedi is a Full Professor at the School of Design (École de design) within the Faculty of Urban Planning (Faculté de l'aménagement) at the Université de Montréal. She holds a PhD in Urban Planning from the same institution and has over 18 years of professional design experience across industries in Europe, Canada, and the US. Her research focuses on user-centered design, collaborative design processes, and interdisciplinary teamwork, emphasizing early-stage project exploration and team dynamics.

Her research explores how designers act as mediators in collaborative projects, leveraging activity theory and design thinking to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration. Key areas include:

- Team integration in new product development
- Biophilic design in educational spaces
Recent work includes studies on novice designers’ roles in teams and the impact of collaborative frameworks on design outcomes. She has led grants on design integration, received funding from CRSH and FQRSC, and serves on editorial boards and international conference committees.
Administratively, she served as Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies (2018–2023) and currently chairs committees on experiential learning recognition and admissions processes. Her teaching spans courses like ‘Approaches Innovantes du Projet en Design’ and ‘Design Thinking Fundamentals’ at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Notable projects include developing a francophone design collaboration platform and studying design practices in the video game industry.
