Dr. Mitchell McLarnon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Concordia University. His research focuses on critical adult education, sustainability, urban political ecology, and community-based methodologies. He currently leads projects on social-environmental justice through gardening initiatives (funded by Multiple Agencies) and environmental justice mapping in Quebec. McLarnon's work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing participatory visual methods and institutional ethnography.
His research interests include the intersections between education, urban development, and environmental justice. Key areas include how community gardens function as sites for social and ecological transformation, impacts of green gentrification on marginalized communities, and innovative pedagogical practices in non-traditional settings like music schools. He also explores creativity in teaching and the sociocultural dynamics of educational spaces.
