Mitchell Andersson is affiliated with Lund University's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. He holds the role of Researcher at the Clinical Addiction Research Unit and participates in M.Sc research projects. His doctoral thesis (2025) focuses on mental health in elite sports, examining epidemiology, risk factors, and treatment experiences. Andersson has conducted research since 2021 under supervisors Håkansson and Claesdotter-Knutsson.
His research interests include mental health challenges among elite athletes, gambling disorders, concussion-related psychological distress, and adolescent behavioral health. Notable projects include a mixed-methods study on psychiatric care quality in sports clinics and investigations into gambling prevalence among ice hockey players. He has published 14 peer-reviewed articles between 2022–2025, many addressing athlete mental health and addiction.
Andersson presented at a 2025 conference on sports psychology and psychiatry. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being. He has collaborated with researchers in Sweden and internationally on topics like gaming disorder and gender dysphoria trends.
