Emma Claesdotter-Knutsson is an Associate Professor at Lund University’s Faculty of Medicine, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She serves as a Supervisor, Principal Investigator, and Project Manager for initiatives such as the LUNDD (LUnd Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Project and the CARE project (Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Conditions and Associated Risk Factors). Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to mental health and well-being.
Her research focuses on gaming psychology, adolescent mental health, sports psychology, and psychedelic use. Key areas include internet gaming disorder, mental health challenges in elite athletes, and the intersection of personality traits with mental health outcomes. She has published over 50 articles, with recent work emphasizing mixed-methods approaches and population-level studies.
Emma leads or co-leads 10 active projects, including a longitudinal study on gender-affirming care (GLOW) and a family-centered treatment program for problematic gaming. She has supervised multiple PhD students, including Werner M., and manages grants from foundations like Sven Jerring Foundation and Stiftelsen Norrsken Mind.
Her research teams collaborate internationally, with projects involving Brazilian cohorts and Swedish national data. She actively participates in academic networks and has contributed to policy-relevant studies on mental health in sports and neurodevelopmental disorders.
