معرفی
Miska Luoto is Professor in the Department of Geosciences and Geography at the University of Helsinki, affiliated with the Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) and leading the BioGeoClimate Modeling Lab. He supervises doctoral students in Geosciences, Interdisciplinary Environmental Sciences, and Wildlife Biology programs.
Research Interests:
Luoto's research integrates climate change impacts on Arctic ecosystems, remote sensing/GIS applications for biodiversity modeling, and machine learning techniques for paleoclimatic reconstructions. His work on periglacial processes examines geomorphic sensitivity to global change, while recent projects focus on microclimate research in terrestrial ecosystems and cross-boundary biodiversity connections in boreal regions.
Scientific Contributions:
His publications demonstrate expertise in climate-vegetation interactions, spatial modeling of earth surface processes, and Arctic climate risk assessments. Key methodologies include bioclimatic envelope modeling, geomorphic sensitivity analysis, and integration of remote sensing with ground-truth data.
Advising & Grants:
Luoto has supervised multiple doctoral theses and leads projects funded by the Academy of Finland, Waldemar von Frenckells Foundation, and Kone Foundation. Current projects include predictive modeling of Arctic infrastructure threats and boreal forest carbon dynamics.
