Mirza Umair Khalid, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine-Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. He holds dual roles as Associate Program Director (Academics) for the Cardiology Fellowship Program and Clinical Educator. His academic portfolio includes over 70 peer-reviewed publications and active leadership in national committees like the American College of Cardiology's PINNACLE R&P Committee. Dr. Khalid completed his MBBS at Aga Khan Medical School (2009), followed by Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine (2013–2018).
Research focuses on intracoronary imaging, structural echocardiography, and complex coronary interventions. He leads quality improvement initiatives in the VA CCU and oversees BCM Cardiology Fellowship’s academic training, including lecture series, board review, and M&M conferences. Awards include the BCM Early Career Award (2021) and recognition as Best Teaching Faculty (2020).
Professional memberships span the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) committees. His clinical expertise spans six certifications, including Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Cardiac CT.
