Brian J. Malm is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Yale University School of Medicine and Associate Chief of Cardiology at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. He specializes in cardiovascular medicine, focusing on valvular heart disease, cardiac imaging, and interventional procedures like echocardiography and cardiac catheterization. Dr. Malm holds board certifications in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and multiple imaging subspecialties.
His research emphasizes cardiovascular disease prevention, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, and aortic valve/aneurysm abnormalities. He leads multi-center clinical trials including ZEUS, PREVENTABLE, and VA-IMPACT. Dr. Malm has earned awards such as the VISN 1 Clinical Service Line Award and Young Investigator Travel Award from the American Heart Association.
He completed his MD at SUNY Buffalo (2002) and BS at SUNY Binghamton (1996), followed by residency and fellowship training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Yale-New Haven Medical Center. He serves on professional boards including the American College of Cardiology’s Board of Governors and chairs the CT Chapter’s Education Committee.
Dr. Malm’s clinical expertise includes advanced imaging techniques and managing complex cardiovascular cases. He actively contributes to medical education as core faculty for the Yale cardiology fellowship program.
