Dr. Miro Griffiths is a Lecturer in Social Policy and Disability Studies at the University of Leeds, part of the School of Sociology and Social Policy. He co-directs the Centre for Disability Studies and serves on the University's Research Ethics Committee. His research focuses on disability activism, policy analysis, and resistance movements, with a Leverhulme Trust-funded project examining young disabled activists across Europe.
Education: PhD in Sociology (Liverpool John Moores University), MA in Disability Studies (University of Leeds), BSc in Psychology (University of Liverpool). His teaching spans disability theory, social movements, and participatory research methods.
Research interests include disability policy, youth activism, and inclusive practices. Key projects include studies on disability hate crime, personalization in healthcare, and accessible gaming. He advises UK/EU governments on disability policy and has contributed to BBC documentaries and international media.
Awards include an MBE (2014), Royal Society of Arts Fellowship (2017), and recognition in the Disability Power 100 (2023). His advocacy work involves Disabled People’s Organizations globally, focusing on independent living and anti-assisted-suicide campaigns.
