Dr Hannah Morgan is an Associate Professor of Social Policy and Disability Studies at the University of Leeds, within the School of Sociology and Social Policy. She holds a BA in Politics and Parliamentary Studies (Leeds, 1998), an MA in Disability Studies (Leeds, 1999), and a PhD in Sociology by published work (Lancaster, 2018). Her career spans roles at the University of York's Social Policy Research Unit (2002–2003) and Lancaster University (2003–2022), where she advanced from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer in Disability Studies within the Sociology Department. She currently leads the new digital MSc in Disability Rights and Inclusion, launching in 2023, and contributes to social policy teaching and dissertation supervision.
Her research bridges Social Policy and Disability Studies, focusing on disabled people’s experiences in health/social care systems and professional practice ethics. Key themes include welfare reform critiques, interprofessional education, and rights-based service delivery. She co-leads the Centre for Disability Studies and supervises four postgraduate researchers: Menik Budiarti, Ruby Goodley, Carys Kennedy, and Gill Porter.
Morgan has authored over 50 publications, including seminal works on mental capacity law, neoliberal welfare impacts, and disability-inclusive futures. Her work frequently engages with disabled communities to center lived experiences in policy analysis. She actively participates in academic networks through her ORCID profile and Twitter presence, advocating for intersectional disability rights in higher education and public policy.
