Mirko Ruben Bothien

Mirko Ruben Bothien is a Research Fellow at Zurich University of Applied Sciences, affiliated with the School of Engineering and the IEFE Institute of Energy Systems and Fluid Engineering. He leads the Combustor Technology group at Ansaldo Energia Switzerland and is a member of the Norwegian CCS Research consortium board. His expertise spans combustion dynamics, thermoacoustics, and gas turbine technology. He holds a PhD from TU Berlin and a Diploma from RWTH Aachen University.

Research focuses on applying interdisciplinary methods to solve industrial challenges in combustion systems, including flame dynamics, active/passive control, and decarbonization strategies. Techniques include unsteady CFD, system identification, and experimental methods like acoustic and engine testing. His IAS Fellowship work examines reheat flame dynamics in both low- and high-frequency regimes. Key contributions include damping devices for combustion pulsations and azimuthal mode analysis in annular combustors.
