Dr. Kihun Moon is a Researcher at ETH Zürich's Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering, specializing in Combustion and Acoustics for Power and Propulsion Systems. His work focuses on thermoacoustic instabilities, combustion dynamics, and networked combustion systems. He investigates phenomena such as chimera states, synchronization effects, and cross-talk interactions in can-annular configurations. Key research areas include lean premixed flames, turbulent combustion, and acoustic coupling mechanisms in gas turbine combustors.
Research interests span experimental and computational studies of flame dynamics, modal analysis of self-excited instabilities, and low-order modeling of coupled thermoacoustic oscillators. His recent publications (2021–2024) examine topics like azimuthal instabilities, blockage ratio effects, and pressure fluctuations in combustion systems. Dr. Moon collaborates on projects addressing combustion stability challenges in aerospace and power generation applications.
Current affiliations include the Professorship for Combustion and Acoustics at ETH Zürich. Contact: kimoon@ethz.ch located at Sonneggstrasse 3, ML J43 laboratory in Zürich.
