Dr. Mirjana Šijačić-Nikolić is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Belgrade. She holds roles such as Vice-Dean for Research and International Cooperation, Head of the Department of Seed Production, and founder of the Laboratory for Biotechnology. Her research focuses on forest genetics, plant breeding, and conservation of genetic resources. She has published over 380 scientific works, including co-authoring textbooks like Conservation and Directed Use of Forest Genetic Resources. She has led 39 national projects and contributed to international initiatives like COST actions. Awards include Full Membership in the Academy of Engineering Sciences (2018) and leadership roles in national and international conservation programs. Her teaching spans undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, covering genetics, plant breeding, and sustainable resource management. She has mentored multiple doctoral theses and actively participates in academic governance.
Education: PhD in Forestry (2001), Master’s (1995), and Bachelor’s (1991) from the University of Belgrade. Specialization in biotechnology (1999) and international workshops on forest biodiversity (2001, 2005). Research themes include genetic diversity of oak species, climate change impacts, and in situ conservation. Notable contributions include the Forests of Southeast Europe Under a Changing Climate monograph and editorial roles in journals like SEEFOR.
Her recent articles emphasize adaptive traits of forest species, genetic resource management, and climate resilience. Awards highlight her leadership in both scientific and administrative roles.
