Mirjana Rajilić-Stojanović

Mirjana Rajilić-Stojanović is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade. She was elected to her current position on March 14, 2022, and maintains an active research and teaching program focused on gut microbiota and functional foods.

Her primary research interests include:

• Functional food development
• Probiotics and prebiotics
• Polyphenol research
• Gastrointestinal microbiota analysis
• Microbiota dysbiosis in gastrointestinal diseases
• Microbiota dysbiosis in autoimmune diseases

Dr. Rajilić-Stojanović's research program demonstrates a strong focus on the relationship between dietary components, gut microbiota composition, and human health. Her work spans from fundamental microbiome analysis to applied research on herbal extracts, fermentation processes, and the development of functional food products. Recent publications indicate an expanding scope into areas including mycobiota analysis, biomaterial development, and the gut-brain axis, with significant emphasis on herbal extracts like Achillea millefolium (yarrow) and Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort).

Her scientific contributions include numerous publications in high-impact journals, participation in multiple international research projects, and two significant patents related to diagnosing irritable bowel syndrome.

Dr. Rajilić-Stojanović has received recognition through her patent developments:

• Methods for diagnosing irritable bowel syndrome (WO2011/043654)
• Identification of subjects at risk of developing irritable bowel syndrome (WO/2013/012332)

She has successfully mentored numerous students at all academic levels, supervising doctoral, master's, and bachelor's theses focused on microbiome analysis, herbal extracts, probiotics, and related biotechnological applications. Her mentoring extends internationally, having supervised students at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and the University of Bologna in Italy.
