Andreas Munk Petersen

Andreas Munk Petersen is a Clinical Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen, with a dual appointment at the Capital Region of Denmark. He specializes in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, with his clinical work based at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital in the Gastrounit, Medical Division.

Dr. Petersen holds an MD and PhD, indicating his strong foundation in both clinical medicine and research. His academic journey has led him to become a prominent figure in gastrointestinal research with over 100 publications spanning from 2009 to 2025.

Dr. Petersen's research focuses on intestinal dysbiosis in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and obesity. His expertise spans Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Infections, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Fecal Microbiota Transplantation. He investigates Clostridium difficile and pathogenic Escherichia coli, with particular interest in how the gut microbiome influences gastrointestinal health. His current research includes Fecal Microbiota Transplantation and probiotic treatments for recurrent C. difficile infection, overweight, IBS, and IBD, as well as studying emerging E. coli subtypes in GI diseases.
