Mireille Berton is a researcher and lecturer at the Section of History and Aesthetics of Cinema, Faculty of Arts, University of Lausanne (UNIL), a position she has held since August 1, 2016. She has been affiliated with the same section since 2002, progressing through various academic roles. Her work bridges film studies with the history and epistemology of psychological sciences and audiovisual technologies.
Her research interests include the intersections between cinema and psychoanalysis, psychology, psychiatry, and parapsychology, approached from an epistemological and cultural-historical perspective. She is particularly invested in exploring marginalized areas in canonical film history, the evolution of audiovisual devices, and the theoretical and historical relationships between cinema and television series.
Mireille Berton was awarded an FNS (Swiss National Science Foundation) grant for young researchers in 2007–2008, enabling her to conduct research at the prestigious Alexandre Koyré Center (CNRS/EHESS) under Professor Jacqueline Carroy.
She studied history, art history, and film history and aesthetics at the University of Lausanne. Her academic trajectory reflects a deep commitment to interdisciplinary research in cinema and its connections to science, technology, and culture.
