Pierre-Emmanuel Jaques is a MER 2 researcher in the Section of History and Aesthetics of Cinema at the Faculty of Arts, University of Lausanne (UNIL), a position he has held since 2016. He is actively engaged in the UNIL + Swiss Cinematheque Collaboration, contributing to key research initiatives in Swiss film history and institutional studies.
His research focuses on the historical and aesthetic dimensions of cinema, with a particular emphasis on Swiss documentary films and their role in shaping cultural and tourist representations. He has collaborated with the Seminar für Filmwissenschaft (Zurich) on projects analyzing how Swiss cinema portrays national identity, with findings published in the 2011 volume Schaufenster Schweiz. Currently, he participates in two major Swiss National Science Foundation-supported projects: Swiss Cinematheque: An Institutional History, led by Prof. François Albera, and The Cinema of Nag and Gisèle Ansorge: Institutions, Practices and Forms, led by Prof. Maria Tortajada. These projects explore the development, practices, and cultural impact of film institutions and pioneering filmmakers in Switzerland.
