Prof. Dr. Minh Nguyen is Professor of Social Anthropology at Bielefeld University and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sociology. He holds visiting positions at Vietnam National University and leads the ERC-funded project 'Welfare for Migrant Factory Workers' (2019-2024).
His research investigates welfare systems for migrant workers in Vietnam and China under market socialism, mobility's role in rural welfare, and China's influence in the Global South. Fieldwork spans industrial zones in Vietnam and China using ethnographic and policy analysis methods.
Honors include an ERC Starting Grant, American Anthropological Association Book Prize, Lee Kong Chian Fellowship, and nomination to AcademiaNet. He edits the Journal of Vietnamese Studies and coordinates the DFG Research Training Group on transnational labor markets.
