Ms. Jingyu Mao, PhD, is a former research associate in the field of social anthropology at the University of Bielefeld's Faculty of Sociology. She contributed to the ERC-funded project 'Welfare Struggles,' led by Prof. Dr. Minh Nguyen, which examines welfare provisions for migrant workers in global factories in China and Vietnam. Her research focuses on migration and work, ethnicity and gender dynamics, emotion and intimacy, and the politics of care.
Dr. Mao holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Edinburgh (2020), an MA in Sociology from the University of Warwick (2014), and dual BAs in Sociology and Journalism from Xiamen University (2013). She is currently developing a monograph based on her doctoral research, analyzing the intertwining inequalities of ethnicity, rural-urban divides, and gender through the lens of ethnic performers in Southwest China.
Her work bridges socio-ethical dimensions of labor migration and institutionalized care systems, with a comparative focus on East Asia.
