Ming-Ming Zhou is the Dr. Harold and Golden Lamport Professor and Chairman of the Department of Structural and Chemical Biology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He also holds professorships in the Departments of Oncological Sciences and Pharmacology and Systems Therapeutics. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of cellular signal transduction and epigenetic regulation of gene transcription, utilizing structural/chemical and molecular/cellular biology approaches.
Education: BS in Chemical Engineering from East China University of Science and Technology (1984), MS in Chemistry from Michigan Technological University (1988), and PhD in Chemistry from Purdue University (1993). Joined Mount Sinai in 1997 after postdoctoral training at Abbott Laboratories.
Research Interests: Combines structural and chemical biology to study fundamental processes in human health and disease, with emphasis on HIV/AIDS therapy development and overcoming viral drug resistance. Active in epigenetics, gene regulation, and drug discovery.
- Award: GlaxoSmithKline Drug Discovery Research Award (2003)
Advising: Mentored over 30 PhD students and postdoctoral fellows at Mount Sinai. Serves on NIH and NSF review panels, and as Board Director of the New York Structural Biology Center. Co-Director of the Experimental Therapeutics Institute.
Labs/Teams: Leads research groups integrating structural and chemical biology tools to advance therapeutic strategies against diseases.
