Mindy Farris is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Central Arkansas. She received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Vermont (2007) and joined UCA in 2014.
Her research investigates molecular mechanisms of aging and neurodegeneration using Caenorhabditis elegans models. Key areas include:
- Nutrient and hormonal regulation of longevity
- Vitamin D's role in lifespan extension
- Proteotoxic stress in neurodegenerative conditions
- Genetic pathways linking diet to aging
Recent publications (2019-2023) demonstrate how steroid signaling mediates dietary restriction effects and how vitamin D3 promotes longevity. Earlier work examined molecular oncology mechanisms at the enzyme level.
Dr. Farris teaches Principles of Biology, Cell Biology, and specialized courses in molecular aging while directing the Farris Lab for undergraduate research.
