Mindy Duffourc is an Assistant Professor of Private Law at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Law and a member of the Law and Tech Lab. Her research focuses on comparative health law, medical liability, and the intersection of artificial intelligence with legal systems. She holds a Dr. Jur. from the University of Passau (Germany), a JD from the University of North Carolina School of Law, and a BA in Political Science from Louisiana Tech University. Prior to her current role, she served as an Assistant Professor at NYU, a postdoctoral fellow at Penn State Dickinson Law (CLASSICA project), and a Humboldt German Chancellor Fellow researching comparative health law and risk management. She has also held roles as a Lecturer in civil procedure and health law at the University of Passau and a Joachim Herz Fellow at Bucerius Law School.
Her expertise spans tort law, medical law, and AI policy, with a focus on liability frameworks for healthcare AI systems, cross-jurisdictional legal comparisons, and privacy concerns in digital medicine. Recent work addresses AI liability in surgery, generative AI’s impact on patient privacy, and regulatory challenges posed by autonomous medical systems. She frequently publishes in journals like JAMA, Stanford Technology Law Review, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
