Mina Zarfsaz is an Assistant Professor of Design at Rowan University, coordinating the Design program and directing the Institute for Innovative Media, Materials & Design (IMMaD). She holds affiliations within the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts. Her work bridges technology and the humanities through participatory practices, emphasizing social change via Social Design and Behavioral Ecology frameworks.
Research interests focus on speculative design, empathic systems, enactive perception, and immersive environments. Her creative projects span experimental media, public art, and interdisciplinary collaborations with underrepresented communities. Publications appear in journals like Adjacent (NYU ITP), Title Magazine, and Philadelphia Inquirer.
Zarfsaz received Rowan’s 2024 President’s Award and presented at the Spatial Humanities Conference in Germany. Residencies include the University City Science Center and Vermont Studio Center. Her teaching philosophy prioritizes experiential learning and inclusion, with over a decade of higher education experience.
She leads the IMMaD lab, exploring innovative media and material systems. Notable exhibitions include venues at Yale University, Magnan Metz Gallery (NYC), and the Noyes Museum of Art. Creative work addresses themes of disruption, glitch feminism, and multisensory storytelling.
