Min Xia is an Associate Professor at Western University's Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. He joined in 2023 as Director of the Machine Intelligence Laboratory (MIN Lab). Prior to Western, he served as Assistant Professor (2019–2023) and Associate Professor (2023) at Lancaster University in the UK.
- Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (University of British Columbia, 2017), M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Science and Technology of China, 2012), B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering (Southeast University, 2009).
His research bridges scientific machine learning, intelligent monitoring systems, and industrial informatics, focusing on applications in manufacturing optimization, energy systems, and predictive maintenance. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and secured $20 million in research funding across Canada, the UK, and Japan (including $3 million as PI).
Dr. Xia leads editorial roles as Editor-in-Chief of Mechatronic Systems and Control and Associate Editor for several IEEE journals. Recognitions include the World's Top 2% Scientists (2020–present), IEEE TIM Andy Chi Best Paper Award, and Fellowships in the Higher Education Academy (UK) and IEEE.
- Scientific Awards: Wolfe-Western Fellowship (2025), Outstanding Young Engineer Award (2024), World's Top 2% Scientists (2020–present), Mitacs-JSPS Fellowship (2019), and multiple UBC graduate awards.
