Miltos Hadjiosif

Dr. Miltos Hadjiosif is a Senior Lecturer in Counselling Psychology at the Department of Health and Social Sciences, University of the West of England (UWE). He is a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His interdisciplinary approach integrates counselling psychology, community psychology, and autoethnography.

• MA (Hons) in Psychology and MSc in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh
• Doctorate in Psychotherapeutic & Counselling Psychology from the University of Surrey (full scholarship from the A.S. Onassis Foundation)

His research focuses on critical psychology, relational psychoanalysis, and the de-medicalisation of suffering, emphasizing intersubjectivity and psycho-social situatedness in therapeutic practices. He advocates for the integration of community psychology with counselling psychology and promotes reflexive doctoral training. His methodological interests include autoethnography and creative-relational inquiry.

Dr. Hadjiosif supervises research projects such as:

• Gaining prescription rights: A qualitative survey mapping the views of UK counselling and clinical psychologists
• A phenomenological inquiry into therapeutic aspects of tabletop roleplaying games
• Negotiating an alcoholic identity within Alcoholics Anonymous Twelve-Step recovery model
• The experience of Wiccan counsellors

He co-founded the Community Psychology Festival (2014) and has led organizing committees for the Bristol (2017) and Edinburgh (2023) festivals. He served on the BPS Community Psychology Section Committee for 7 years and as Training Lead for the DCoP Committee.

Scientific awards include the BPS Division of Counselling Psychology Best Supervisor/Mentor Award (2019) and multiple nominations for UWE's Outstanding Teaching Award. He co-edited a special edition of Counselling Psychology Review focusing on psychotherapists' developmental narratives.
