Milton Guillén is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Vermont (UVM), affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He is also the senior programmer for the Camden International Film Festival/Points North Institute in Maine, USA. His artistic practice focuses on radical collaborative non-fictions and political dreamscapes addressing human rights and aesthetics. His films have screened globally at venues like the Venice Biennale, CPH:DOX, Hot Docs, and DOK Leipzig.
Education: MFA in Documentary Media from Northwestern University; studies in Visual Anthropology and Cinema Studies at Colby College. Current fellowships include a post-MFA residency at UVM and the 2023-2024 FSC-LEF Harvard Fellowship.
Research interests center on the intersection of documentary art, political activism, and visual storytelling. His work has been supported by grants from the Tribeca Film Institute, ITVS, and various fellowships.
Notable recognitions include residency awards and grants from organizations such as the International Documentary Association and Kartemquin. His creative projects emphasize collaborative approaches to nonfiction filmmaking with sociopolitical themes.
