Anuradha Rana is a Professor and Co-Chair of the Documentary Program at DePaul University’s School of Cinematic Arts, holding additional titles as Vincent de Paul Professor in Film and recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award. She leads academic programs while maintaining an active career as an award-winning filmmaker, mentor, and documentary advocate. Her work focuses on storytelling that challenges cultural and social boundaries through non-fiction narratives.
Her research explores documentary filmmaking techniques, particularly in representing marginalized communities and exploring identity through cinematic mediums. Notable works include the Oscar-qualifying documentary MUSHER and counter//balance, which won Best Directing and Best Short Documentary awards. Current projects include LANGUAGE OF OPPORTUNITY examining linguistic identity and BREWER highlighting women in brewing.
Rana’s accolades include fellowships from the American Institute of Indian Studies and DePaul Humanities Center, alongside recognition as a DOC NYC New Leader and Rockwood Documentary Leader. She actively contributes to industry initiatives like A-DOC’s ‘Our Stories, Our Voices’ and serves on mentorship programs for emerging filmmakers through Kartemquin Films and the Asian American Documentary Network (A-DOC).
Her teaching spans over 30 courses including advanced documentary production, filmmaking with social change agents, and cinematic foundations. She maintains a robust network of industry partnerships with organizations like PBS, GBH/WORLD Channel, and the Tribeca Film Institute.
