Milka Perović is a Principal Research Fellow at the Department of Neurobiology, Institute for Biological Research 'Siniša Stanković' - National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade. With over 30 peer-reviewed publications, her work focuses on molecular neurobiology and neurodegenerative diseases.
- Education: B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Physiology (1998), M.Sc. in Biological Sciences (2002), Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (2011) from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade.
Research Interests center on elucidating molecular mechanisms of brain plasticity during aging and in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Key areas include synaptic plasticity, inflammation, gliosis, cholesterol metabolism, stress-related signaling, and BDNF signaling. She investigates how environmental and pharmacological interventions alter these pathways to identify novel AD therapies.
Scientific Awards include a DAAD fellowship (2008), Ministry of Science fellowships (1999-2002), continuous A1 high-ranking scientist recognition (2011-2024), and the Best PhD Thesis in Molecular Biology award from the Goran Ljubijankić Foundation (2011).
As a mentor, she supervises PhD and MSc students, leveraging her expertise in molecular neurobiology. The Institute provides platforms for interdisciplinary research, including collaborations with international projects like Net4Brain COST Action.
