Dr Miles Thompson is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS). He leads the Psychological Sciences Research Group (PSRG) and holds HCPC registration as a clinical psychologist. His career includes NHS clinical work at the Bath Centre for Pain Services (2005–2011), a PhD from Goldsmiths (University of London), and prior academic roles at Canterbury Christ Church University, where he became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Research focuses on psychology’s role in social, global, and environmental justice, including ACT for chronic pain, prosocial applications of ACT, and critical community psychology. Teaching includes modules on Psychology and Social Justice, Interpersonal Psychology, and Health Psychology placements.
Publications span clinical, environmental, and social justice themes, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to systemic challenges. Grants and collaborations involve global poverty, healthcare reform, and resilience frameworks. Lab/team affiliations include the PSRG, focusing on community- and liberation-oriented psychology.
