معرفی
Miles Reid is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Warwick, where he has been a faculty member since October 1978. He began as a lecturer (1978-1989), became a reader (1989-1992), and has been a professor since 1992. His academic career also includes positions as a Research Fellow at Christ's College, Cambridge (1973-1978) and as a research student at DPMMS, Cambridge and IHES, Paris (1969-1972).
Reid's research focuses on algebraic geometry, with particular interest in:
- Algebraic surfaces and 3-folds
- Fano varieties
- McKay correspondence
- Moduli spaces
- Birational geometry
- Classification of algebraic varieties
His work has led to significant contributions in the field, particularly in the study of 3-folds and the McKay correspondence. Reid's research often involves the interplay between algebraic geometry, representation theory, and singularity theory, with publication trends showing consistent focus on classification problems and geometric structures across decades.
Reid has received numerous prestigious awards including:
- 2002 FRS (Fellow of the Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge)
- Invited speaker at Beijing ICM 2002
- 2006 LMS Senior Berwick Prize
- 2014 LMS Polya Prize
- 2023 Sylvester Medal
Throughout his career, Reid has supervised 33 PhD students and currently advises one student, Jesus-David Fernandez-Caballero. He has held leadership roles including Director of Warwick Math Research Centre (2004-2014) and coordinator of multiple significant research projects such as the Warwick EPSRC Symposium on Algebraic Geometry and the Marie Curie research training site 3-fAG. His sabbatical visits to institutions worldwide including Moscow University, Tokyo University, Kyoto University, and the Korea Institute for Advanced Studies demonstrate his international collaboration and influence in the field of algebraic geometry.
