Professor Pete Vermeire is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at Central Michigan University. His research focuses on Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra, with a particular emphasis on secant varieties, reflexive sheaves, and projective geometry. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1998) and a B.S. from the University of Notre Dame (1992).
His work spans theoretical and computational aspects of algebraic structures, including studies on singularities, syzygies, and moduli spaces. Notable areas of exploration include the arithmetic properties of secant varieties, equations defining such varieties, and geometric flips in algebraic geometry. He has presented his research at institutions like the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and KAIST, and his publications appear in journals such as Journal of Algebra and Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society.
Professor Vermeire’s research also touches on stable complex matrices, elliptic curves on Fano 3-folds, and the cohomology of reflexive sheaves. His contributions highlight interdisciplinary connections between algebraic geometry and computational algebra.
