Milena Michalski is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at King’s College London’s Department of War Studies (Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy), combining academic research with artistic practice. Her roles include Artist Researcher on the AHRC-funded 'Art and Reconciliation' project (2021-2023) and AHRC Artist in Residence (2016–2021). She holds a PhD from UCL and an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art.
Research interests focus on visual arts’ role in conflict, peacebuilding, and war crimes documentation. Key projects include the 'In/Visible War Crimes Sites' series, the 'Art and Reconciliation: Foto Depo' initiative, and collaborations with institutions like the History Museum of Bosnia and Hercegovina. Her artistic mediums include printmaking, photography, and site-specific installations exploring themes of memory, opacity, and reconciliation.
Notable exhibitions include 'Warsaw Calling' (2024) and 'Ruins of Time' series (2023), with works featured in venues like Tate Britain and the Venice Biennale. Awards include the 2020 Analogue Photography Grant and multiple residencies. She co-founded the Russian Cinema Research Group at SSEES, UCL, and contributes to King’s War Studies’ Arts & Conflicts Hub.
