Milagros Castillo-Montoya

Milagros Castillo-Montoya is an Associate Professor in Higher Education and Student Affairs at UConn's Neag School of Education. A first-generation scholar, her research examines equity-based teaching, critical service learning, and first-generation student success. She received the 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award and the 2020 Perry A. Zirkel Teaching Award.

Research Focus: Her projects include 'Teaching through Diversity,' analyzing how faculty integrate minoritized students' knowledge, and critical service-learning frameworks for Latinx students.

Leadership: She serves as Senior Associate Editor for the Review of Higher Education and was an inaugural Faculty Fellow for UConn's Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
