Mila Getmansky Sherman

Mila Getmansky Sherman is the Fuller and Meehan Endowed Professor of Finance and Associate Director of the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets (CISDM) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management. She holds a PhD (2004) and BS (1998) from MIT.

She has held tenured positions since 2004, including visiting scholar roles at MIT Sloan (2012). Her research focuses on systemic risk, hedge funds, financial crises, and regulatory policy. Recent honors include the NSF PRISM grant (2019–2022), CFA Institute’s Graham & Dodd Award (2016), and UMASS ADVANCE Mentoring Award (2020–2021).

Key research areas include interconnectedness in financial markets, liquidity dynamics, and institutional investor behavior. Her work on insurance portfolio similarity and mutual fund liquidity recovery highlights contributions to financial stability analysis. Teaching focuses on finance theory, financial modeling, and alternative investments.

She serves as Editor for the Journal of Alternative Investments and Associate Editor for Data Science in Science. Her grants total over $4.1M in NSF-funded projects, including CyberCorps initiatives and cybersecurity risk analysis.

Her academic leadership includes mentoring roles and collaborative research with institutions like Goethe University Frankfurt and MIT. Current projects explore climate finance, ETF network dynamics, and central clearinghouse risk frameworks.
